Using your finger or a flat head screwdriver, depress the center release and remove the alternator connector.Ĩ. Then while still holding the tensioner in the loose position, remove the drive belt. Using your 19mm combination wrench and a second larger wrench for leverage, turn the hex nut clock wise (towards the front of the vehicle) slowly until the tensioner piston is fully compressed. Locate the 19mm hex extension/fake nut on the drive belt tensioner. When the coolant has finished draining, tighten the petcock finger tight.Ħ. Using your hands or a set of pliers, loosen the petcock until a steady stream of coolant comes out. Locate the radiator drain petcock at the lower left (from driver's seat) portion of the radiator. Then locate the drain hole in the driver side lower splash shield. Remove the radiator cap and set it aside. Drain the engine coolant from the radiator. Note: It would be a good idea to save your radio presets now.ĥ. Severe injury, death, or damage could result from removing the power wire while the battery is connected. Warning: It is very important to have the battery disconnected. Using your 10mm wrench, loosen the nut and remove the negative battery terminal from the battery. Jack up the front of the car and lower it securely on jack stands.Ĥ. Park vehicle on a flat surface, set the parking brake and shut engine off.Ģ. You should not attempt this if the vehicle was just driven.ġ. The quality gap between OEM and aftermarket is massive. Note: I only recommend using OEM Toyota thermostats. This is because removing the battery forces a relearn of parameters and a dirty throttle will cause low idle. Note: If you have a 2005-2008 model, it would be a good idea to clean your throttle body before starting if you have never done so.
